Installing Artificial Turf: Step by Step
1.) REMOVAL & SPRINKLERS
We will begin by removing existing sod-grass or hardscape surface in the area to be installed, we will remove 3-4 inches down from the existing grade. We remove the entire sprinkler line to prevent any future pipe leaking, if any system is connected to a second line like a drip line for shrubs or plants we will re-route that line to a new PVC line directly for that plant bed section .
2.) EDGING
Then we will use 2×4 bend a board or steel edging as new turf edges, ( other types of edges can be done with stones, concrete or wood at customer’s request). The new edging will be secure with steel stakes and galvanized screws.
3.) SUB-BASE
Once the edging has been installed we will use 3" inches of Class II base rock as primary bedding with 1/2” of 1/4” minus crush aggregate to finish proper grading. ( all installation soil areas are different so we might have to substitute Class II Base material with a different one for better drainage or stability.) Sub-base material(s) will be compacted down to about 95%.
4.) WEED BARRIER
A weed barrier will be installed for weed protection. ( for areas with drainage problems we will use a different type of fabric ).
5.) TURF INSTALLATION
At this point we will start laying down the turf and we will secure it down with 6” sod staples and 6” nails as necessary both ways , 12” seaming tape and turf Glue will be used for any seaming.
6.) INFILL
We will use silica sand as basic infill, or Envirofill for Microban antimicrobial protection for pets ( customer’s choice).
7.) FINAL CLEAN UP
After the infill application we will Walk the project to see if there is any debris or materials that are out of place. If everything looks perfect, then we will hose down your new lawn which will complete the infill install and now your artificial turf installation is complete and ready for use.
